James McGolrick

James McGolrick (18411918) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the first bishop of the Diocese of Duluth, Minnesota between the foundation of the diocese in 1889 until his death in 1918.

Biography

McGolrick was born in Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Ireland on May 1, 1841. He studied for the priesthood at All Hallows College, Dublin, and was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis on June 11, 1889. The Diocese of Duluth was founded on October 3, 1889, and on November 15, 1889, McGolrick was appointed its first bishop. He was ordained on December 27, 1889. He died on January 23, 1918.[1]
