The Jackson Showboats are a team in the American Basketball Association based in Jackson, Mississippi that began play in the 2012-13 ABA season. Grant Worsley founded the team after moving to Mississippi from New Jersey, and quickly provided a needed outlet for great basketball talent in Mississippi and its region. Former collegiate stars Dietric Slator from Mississippi State and Trey Montgomery from Samford put the Showboats on the national radar.

In the 2013-14 season, the Showboats played the top two teams in ABA a total of five times. Traveling to play teams like the Jacksonville Giants and the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks, the Showboats scheduled games against other powerhouse teams like the Mobile Bay Tornados and Birmingham, Alabama. Showboats guard Jon Phelps was voted and selected to the ABA All Star Team, and former LSU star guard Terry Martin kept NBA and international scouts in attendance at their games. [1] The Showboats finished in the top 15 in their first ABA season.[2]

As of the November 2014 pre-season rankings, the Showboats are ranked #31. In 2014, Worsley started the River City Summer League in Vicksburg, Mississippi to keep players of the region in shape and visible for scouts looking to fill roster needs. Players not only from Mississippi participated in the summer league, but as far as Tennessee came to the tourist town of Vicksburg to compete. Hosted by the Showboats, top players have been offered NBA D League contracts(Mychal Ammons), and roster positions on the Showboats as well. [3]
