Ireland will compete at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics from 15–23 August. A team of 14 athletes was announced in preparation for the competition. Selected athletes have achieved one of the competition's qualifying standards. The team includes European medallists Derval O'Rourke and David Gillick, and 2008 Olympic finalists Eileen O'Keeffe, Rob Heffernan and Roisin McGettigan.[1]

This is expected to be one of Ireland's best performances at the World Champs, with Gillick and Hession strong medal contenders in the 400m and 200m
