Ian Broome

Ian Broome (born 6 May 1960) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Gloucestershire and Derbyshire in his first-class career.

Broome first represented Gloucestershire in the 1979 Second XI Championship, debuting against Warwickshire in September 1979. He continued to play for the second team until 1982, when he moved to Northamptonshire, for whom he played sparingly in the Second XI. Unable to find a position at either team, he moved to Derbyshire in 1984, where he played in the Second XI for two years.

Broome made his County Championship debut in 1984, making a tenacious 26 in his first innings. Continuing in his role as the backbone of the early-1980s' Derbyshire Second XI tailend, he made his last Derbyshire appearance in August 1986, before briefly moving to Sussex. Unable to hold down a place in the side, he quit cricket soon after.

Broome played as a tailender throughout his entire cricketing career, partnering former Test wicket-keeper Bob Taylor in his early days at the club.
