Hywel ap Rhys (Glywysing)

This is a Welsh name. It means Hywel son of Rhys. For other Welshmen of the same name, see Hywel or Hywel ap Rhys (disambiguation).

Hywel ap Rhys was a 9th-century king of part or all of Glywysing (ruled c. 840–886) in southern Wales.

His sons Arthfael and Owain were probably responsible for the reünification of the realm of Morgannwg.[1] A third son may have fallen assisting Rhodri the Great resist a Mercian invasion of Anglesey around 843.[2]
