History

Hyllestad Church

The church at Hyllestad is first mentioned in historical records in 1322. This was probably located at the same church site that was in use until 1880 (a little north of the village of Hyllestad). The space at the old church site and cemetery was too small when a new church was to be built in 1880. A new church site was chosen at Myklebust, a little to the south of the old church site (where the present village of Hyllestad is located). Hyllestad Church is a basilica church in wood. The building was designed by architect Johannes Henrik Nissen. The building was consecrated on 23 November 1880, and it seats about 300 people.[3]
