Houck Covered Bridge was built in 1880 over Big Walnut Creek in Washington Township, Putnam County, Indiana.

Location

Located in the southwestern portion of the county, it is north of Manhattan on US 40. Manhattan Road, also listed as County Road 445 W, runs north from US 40, parallel to Big Walnut Creek. (Manhattan road changes its name as it move north from CR 445 W to CR 375 W.) Almost immediately after crossing a railroad track, there is a road on the west side of Manhattan Road. This is County Road 400 S. West lies the bridge and Big Walnut Creek.

Construction

The Houck bridge is a Howe truss wooden covered bridge, 210 feet (64 m). It is one of the longest Howe trusses in the state.[1]
