Hoffman is a village in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 508 at the 2010 census.[1]

Geography

Hoffman is located in southeastern Clinton County at 38°32′25″N 89°15′47″W / 38.54028°N 89.26306°W / 38.54028; -89.26306 (38.540238, -89.262943).[2] Illinois Route 161 runs through the village, leading east 7 miles (11 km) to Centralia and west 11 miles (18 km) to Bartelso. Carlyle, the Clinton County seat, is 11 miles (18 km) to the northwest.

According to the 2010 census, Hoffman has a total area of 0.51 square miles (1.32 km2), all land.[3]

As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 460 people, 182 households, and 133 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,270.4 people per square mile (493.4/km²). There were 193 housing units at an average density of 533.0 per square mile (207.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.26% White, 0.22% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.43% Asian, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population.

There were 182 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $42,115, and the median income for a family was $52,500. Males had a median income of $40,625 versus $21,597 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,897.
