Hema Malini - Diva Unveiled is a biography book about Bollywood actress Hema Malini, written by film journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee in 2005. The book was released by Magna Publishing Co. Ltd., owned by media baron Nari Hira. The foreword of the book was written by Amitabh Bachchan.[1][2][3][4]
Background
When Nari Hira was planning to assign a biographical book on Hema Malini, Ram Kamal Mukherjee was commissioned to write a regular book under the Hall Of Frame series on Hema Malini. But after working for almost 18 months passionately on this subject, when he submitted the final copy of the book, Nari Hira and managing Editor Ashwin Varde decided to publish the book as coffee table book. Magna Publishing Co. Ltd. released it as a collector's edition. Priced at Rs. 1500 in 2005.[5]
The cover image of the book was shot by fashion photographer Subi Samuel. In the book cover shoot Hema Malini wore fashion designer Neeta Lulla's collection.
About Hema Malini - Diva Unveiled
The book is not an authorized biography of Hema Malini, but she participated in book launch events at Mumbai, Delhi & Kolkata.[6]
The book talks about Hema Malini's life from her childhood to film acting journeys. Noted film critic and journalist Jerry Pinto used an excerpt from Ram Kamal's book for his column. This book has been often featured on television. The book comprises exclusive images like Dharmendra's first wife Prakash Kaur, Hema Malini's personal letter to Esha written in 1983 when Esha was a kid, Family photographs of Hema Malini etc. The book has more than 500 rare photographs of Hema Malini's professional & Personal life.
Ram Kamal Mukherjee wrote this book while he was working as a senior correspondent for Stardust.
Book Release Events
The book was released at China Garden, Mumbai in presence of Bollywood National Award winning actress Tabu, Hema Malini's Daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Film Director Ramesh Sippy was also present at the event.
In Delhi the book was released in presence of Management guru Arindam Chaudhuri, actor Pankaj Dheer & actress Hema Malini herself.[7]
The book was also launched in Kolkata in presence of National Award winning actress Rituparna Sengupta, Professor Dr. Tapati Basu HOD Journalism from University of Calcutta and many other eminent personalities.
Award
In 2006, Ram Kamal Mukherjee won Best Author award from Kalakar Awards in Kolkata at Science City Auditorium. The award was conferred by veteran film actor Chiranjeet Chakraborty.[8]
