data

HD 178911 is a triple star system in the constellation Lyra. The secondary star (designated as HD 178911 B) has an apparent magnitude of 6.74 and a spectral type of G1V, which is very similar to our Sun at a distance of 160 light years. The age of the star is slightly older and have significantly higher metallicity than our Sun.

Stellar system

The HD 178911 system consists of HD 178911A and HD 178911B in a 1300-day orbit with HD 178911B being a more distant common proper motion companion and HD 178911A is in fact a tight binary pair consisting of HD 178911Aa and Ab.[1] An additional companion HD 178911C is a chance optical alignment and is not part of the system.[2]

Planetary system

In 2001 an extrasolar planet was discovered in orbit around HD 178911B.[3][4]
