Zanesville City School District

Zanesville City School District is a public school district serving students in the city of Zanesville, Ohio, United States. The school district enrolls 3,654 students as of the 2012-2013 academic year.[1]

History

The first school house (a log-cabin) was built and opened in 1803. There has been four different buildings housing Zanesville High School. The first was on North 6th Street 1855 till 1908 (this building became Hancock Jr. High until 1954 and then the school's administration office building until about 1980. Lash (Zanesville) High School was built & opened on South 6th Street in 1908, closing in 1954 and becoming Hancock Jr. High. In 1954, a new Zanesville High School opened on Blue Ave, in 2010; a newer ZHS opened its doors on Blue Ave. From the 1890s until the 1980s the City schools had 13 neighborhood elementary buildings K-6th grades, 3 Jr High Schools grades 7-9 and 1 High school grades 10-12.
