Late shri Gauri Shanker Pandey (गौरी शंकर पाण्डेय), was a veteran Indian politician and a former Minister of Bihar. He represented Bettiah constituency in Bihar assembly and served in various ministerial portfolios.

He was a popular leader of Congress from Bihar and even leaders from opposition party respected him for his social services, simplicity and honesty. After retiring from active politics, he remained in his home village Baithania (near Bettiah) for the rest of his life serving the people.

Political career

In an era of turbulence and uncertainty in the Bihar Politics till 1989 which witnessed many odds and evens in the entire political history of the state, he succeeded many Senior Congress leaders and became Minister (who was also affectionately called "Malikaar").

He had been a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly during 1969-72, 1977–82, 1982–85, 1985-90 Bettiah (Vidhan Sabha constituency), Bihar. He has held several ministerial portfolios including Road, Transport, Civil Aviation, Law, Excise, Environment and forest in successive Bihar Government.

Personal life

Gauri Shankar Pandey was married to Gena Devi. His son Anil Kumar Pandey is also an active politician, currently PACS Chairman Bettiah district (previously elected in district council, Bettiah and had contested assembly election from Bettiah constituency. His other sons Sh. Laxhmikant Pandey, Sushil Pandey, Ajay Pandey and Rajan Pandey are following his father's footstep and are active social activists. Kamla Devi, one of his daughter is married to Dinesh kumar mishra (brother of late Krishna Kumar Mishra)and PACS chairman. One of his daughter Geeta Pathak Is married to Rajesh Pathak, a successful business man in Bihar.
