Galerie Urs Meile, Beijing-Lucerne is a contemporary art gallery located in Lucerne (Switzerland) and Beijing (China).[1]

History and artistic programme

The gallery was founded by Urs Meile (the son of an art collector)[2] in 1992. The gallery presents contemporary painting and sculpture, photography, installation and video.It now has two locations, in Lucerne (Switzerland) and Caochangdi, Beijing (China). The Beijing gallery was designed by artist Ai Weiwei.[3]

Galerie Urs Meile was one of the first international galleries to focus on the Chinese art scene and has been working on an international level with Chinese artists since opening its Beijing branch in 1995.[2] The gallery represents established artists such as Ai Weiwei, Wim Delvoye (in Asia), Xie Nanxing, Qiu Shihua, Not Vital, and Wang Xingwei, as well as emerging artists such as Cheng Ran, Li Gang, Christian Schoeler, Julia Steiner, and Yan Xing.

Galerie Urs Meile annually participates at Art Basel, Art Basel Hong Kong, and Art Basel Miami Beach.
