Gaelic Football Provence is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in La Fare-les-Oliviers in the south of France.

History

The club was founded on 24 January 2015 by a group of passionate peoples living in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The first training sessions were held for the first time in July 2014 on a pitch located in Aix-en-Provence, cause most of the participants lived close to the city which is also central in the region.

As it is often the case, a player who has already played this sport elsewhere in France is at the origin of the project and initiate other GAA fans and curious in order to create a club and participate to the French national championship.

Since the establishment of the club, Gaelic Football Provence has played friendly tournaments (in Paris and Barcelona). After a first season ended with a 4th place in the Division 3 French championship at the final tournament of Guérande in june 2015, GFP participated to its first full season in 2016, even organizing its first official tournament (the 1st point-scoring competition of the year) on 26 March in La Fare-les-Oliviers. After the 3 federal tournaments, the club qualified for the Division 2 finals in Clermont-Ferrand where it earned a deserving 5th place (beating Lorient, Guérande and the big rivals of Azur).
