From Here to Eternity is a 1977 album composed, produced and performed by Italian musician Giorgio Moroder.

Album information

After producing the first disco hit entirely produced with a synthesizer, "I Feel Love", Moroder kept the collaboration going with engineer Robert Wedell to create a solo album. In the production credits, it is stated that "only electronic keyboards were used in the making of this album." The first side of the album is a nonstop dance mix that has been said to influence future generations of house music producers. Some effects Giorgio used on this album are: bongo drums ran through a vocoder, vocals ran through a vocoder, kick drum and stomps ran through a vocoder, hi-hats were achieved by tuning the moog synthesizer to a high frequency, cutting it off, then running it through a sequencer, stereo panning and reversed echo effects, also used on "The Chase" recorded a year later, and on "Now I Need You", a track from the Donna Summer album, Once Upon a Time[3] also from 1977 and tape loops.

The album was ranked #88 in Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of the 1970s.[4]

The album's title track, together with "Too Hot to Handle" and "First Hand Experience in Second Hand Love", reached number two on Billboard's disco charts.[5]

Like his hit for Donna Summer, "I Feel Love", most of the album had the same vibe and sound. It was the start of upbeated electronica, something that came into style during the mid-1980s (known as Hi-NRG).

"From Here to Eternity", "First Hand Experience in Second Hand Love" and "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" were all featured in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories on the fictional radio station Flashback FM. Songs from some of Giorgio Moroder's other albums were also featured on the same radio station. In 2012 Giorgio Moroder remixed 'From Here To Eternity' to play at the Luis Vuitton fashion show.
