Freshwater biology

Freshwater biology is the scientific biological study of freshwater ecosystems and is a branch of limnology. It seeks to understand the relationships between living organisms in freshwater and their physical and chemical environment. The discipline is also widely used in industrial processes such as sewage treatment[1] and water purification which make use of biological processes.

In the UK the Freshwater Biological Association[2] is based near Windermere in Cumbria.
