The current Flag of Southern Leyte is one of the few unique provincial flags of the Philippines. The current flag of Southern Leyte was adopted on 2010, replacing the old plain yellow orange flag which only featured the province's seal at its center. The green field of the flag represents the agriculture industry of the province. The golden trimmings symbolizes the hopes and prayers of the province's people for a golden harvest in the midst of unpredictable natural events. The cross symbolizes the province's historical Christian links. Limasawa, Southern Leyte is widely touted to be the one of the possible location on where the first mass in the Philippines was held. The two major agricultural products of the province, coconut and abaca, is represented by the coconut and abaca leaves. The Four orchids represent the four major divisions of the provinces:
- Maasin, Macrohon, and Padre Burgos Area
- Sogod Bay Area
- Pacific Area
- Panaon Area
The orchids are of the Phalaenopsis x intermedia variety, also known as the Star of Leyte, which was originally found in Southern Leyte.The orchid variety is the provincial flower of the province.
