The International Art Book and Film Festival (in French, Festival International du Livre d'Art et du Film) or FILAF, is an international festival about artbooks and films which take place annually in Perpignan (South of France) since 2011. Its goal is to promote the best books and films about art produced each year in the world.

The festival was created by Sebastien Planas.

History

The International Art Book and Film Festival (FILAF) aims to bring together, to celebrate and to award prizes to the best books and films covering art, which have appeared all over the world during previous year. FILAF takes place in the historic centre of Perpignan, south of France, on the Spanish border, right next to the Mediterranean Sea. FILAF takes place every year during the last week of June. For several days, the public has access to an international selection of books and films via screenings, lectures and meetings with authors, publishers, filmmakers, producers and artists. FILAF focuses on international creations from worldwide concerning contemporary art, photography, design, art collections, cinema, modern art, ancient art and primitive art. An artbook fair, an exhibition of the thousand most impressive books, are organized walk around the historic city center, art exhibitions, lectures given by authors, a day dedicated to the professionals and an evening awards ceremony : welcome to FILAF ! FILAF is an independent festival organized by COGITO. Sponsored by numerous publicly and privately funded partners, FILAF aims to be a real point of reference in its domain. FILAF has a panel of specialists from art world witch accompanies the festival throughout the year, and a jury made up of international and independent experts. FILAF is also cooperating with numerous medias and magazines, witch sponsor it such as : Books Magazine, Arte TV, ArtPress, Quotidien de l'art. FILAF is the only festival in the world to celebrate art through books and films. All spheres of art come together to produce these resources, which provide crucial access to the knowledge of the works of art. FILAF wants to provide a moment where professionals can meet and exchange with each other, as well as with the public,in an atmosphere of discovery and conviviality

filaf annual review

Filaf annual presents exclusive interviews, essays and portfolios by significant personalities from the art world (artists, specialists, authors, directors...) with a new eye and a strong personality. It focuses on their interest in books and film on art by exploring personal libraries, works of art and private collections. Turned to books and films that come out every year, is the reflect, within its 256 pages, of the energy of contemporary publishing on art.

FILAF Artbook Fair

During its 6th edition, FILAF created its first edition of the FILAF Artboo,k Fair was held from 24 to 26 June, 2016, in Perpignan.

Benefiting from the festival events, the FILAF Artbook Fair allow a selection of international publishers of artbooks, artist catalogs, magazines, multiples or fanzines to present their works. Conferences, professional meetings, children’s workshops, screenings, lectures and signatures animate the FILAF Artbook Fair and it is the opportunity to participate in the moments of reflection and animation around the subjects which the festival approaches.

Next edition : from June 23 to 25, 2017.

FILAF Gallery invites artists to produce works combining literature, cinema and drawing or photography. Through three to five exhibitions during the year, artist residencies and the production of associated micro editions, the gallery aims to highlight the links that artists have with literature and cinema. During the various exhibitions builds the exploration of a universe.

Continuing its effort in favor of writing, FILAF Gallery also developing an art bookstore offering magazines like ArtPress, Design Anthology, 032C, The Drawer, Toilet Paper, Mousse, IDEAT, Purple Fashion, The British Journal of Photography, ArtReview or Etudes Photographiques.
