The European Online Academy (EOA) is organised by the Centre International de Formation Européenne in collaboration with the Jean Monnet-Chair of Political Science of the University of Cologne[1] and other partners. Matthias Waechter succeeds Hartmut Marhold as new Director General, who has led the institution since 2002 and who will continue to work at CIFE as its Director of research and development.

Aims and concepts

The EOA allows the participants to deepen and to supplement their knowledge of the EU integration process by applying blended learning methods through a combination of e-learning and concentrated face-to-face learning phases (at weekends mainly).

Thus the programmes are an ideal training and an additional qualification for young professionals, postgraduates and junior officials interested in/or already working in the field of European integration. The programmes offer an outstanding opportunity for young professionals to continue their studies while pursuing their careers at the same time. Each year's intake is made up of participants (max. 35) with diverse backgrounds and national origins.

The European Online Academy (EOA) in cooperation with the Jean Monnet-Chair of Political Science of the University of Cologne and other partners has developed two postgraduate programmes. Both programmes offer an accurate blend of theoretical and practical knowledge.

Certificate in EU Studies Online (1 year)

This programme offers comprehensive information on recent development of the European Integration process and up-to-date insight into proceedings and policy areas. Through a combination of e-learning and compact face-to-face phases (in Berlin, Rome, Budapest and Brussels) the European Online Academy is an ideal training programme and additional qualification for young professionals, postgraduates and junior officials interested in or already working in the field of European integration.

Master in EU Studies Online (2 years)

The CIFE’s European Online Academy offers a two-year Master programme. Its Master in EU Studies Online is set to provide an accurate blend of theoretical and practical knowledge. This Master is an ideal training programme and additional qualification for young professionals, postgraduates and junior officials interested in or already working in the field of European integration.
