Etmadpur is a town (tehsil) in Agra district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located westward 19 km from Agra from the city of Agra. It is 274 km far from state capital Lucknow.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Etmadpur had a population of 19,412. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Etmadpur has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 63%, and female literacy is 45%. In Etmadpur, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

About the town

It is a small town located on national highway 2 connecting Delhi to Kolkata. The town is believed to be named after Mirza Ghiyas Beg the I'timād-ud-Daulah, a Mughal official, father of Nur Jahan and grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal.

There is one main market, a police station, a couple of banks such as State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, schools, a post office and one government run hospital.

Etmadpur has a couple of higher education institutes as well. Some of them are KP Engineering College, Dr. ZH Institute of Technology & Management and Anjali Institute of Management.

Near Etmadpur in Sawai village famous Yoga Ashram of Mahaprabhu Shri Ramlal ji and Gurudev Chandra Mohan ji Maharaj is situated. It is named Shri Siddha Gufa Sawai and has been built in vast area. Thousands of devotees and seekers visit this holy place. Sankat Haran temple is devoted to Lord Hanuman whose huge idol had been erected in the campus. There are also four jain temples among which the biggest one, Trimurti Mandir, is situated near the highway. There is also a Devi temple known as Khairani Mata Mandir.

New ploting were made by builders and private township also established in 2015 near ACE College of Engineering & Management 7 Km. Stone, NH-2, 'Opp. Budia ka Taal', Agra - Kanpur Road, Etmadpur.

Dr.Dharam Pal Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party won the 2012 state assembly elections to become the MLA from Etmadpur.[2]
