Ellam Avan Seyal is a 2008 Tamil film directed by Shaji Kailas. The film stars R. K., Ashish Vidyarthi, Raghuvaran, Roja Selvamani, Bhama, Manivannan, Visu and Vadivelu in a modern-day vigilante story.[1]Ellam Avan Seyal is the remake of Suresh Gopi starring Chinthamani Kolacase.

A lawyer, who defends criminals, wages vigilante justice against them in private. Movie deals with the murder of a girl who was ragged and brutally murdered by her classmates. The lawyer later finds the truth that she was brutally raped by college authorities for a complete night.

Ellam Avan Seyal is the remake of Suresh Gopi starring Chinthamani Kolacase, also directed by Shaji Kailas. The film was also remade as Telugu with Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Hari playing the role of Suresh Gopi. The Malayalam and Tamil versions were successful, but the Telugu version did poorly. The Telugu version had a different director.

Critical reception

Sify noted "The problem with Shaji Kailas's Ellam Avan Seyal a remake of his own Chintamani Kolacase is its non-happening, unbelievable and infantile script which is dark and dreary".[2] Hindu wrote "Depending entirely on a strong story and his narrative skill, Shaji Kailas keeps you quite engrossed with Ellam Avan Seyal".[3] Behindwoods wrote "The script (credited to Shaji Kailas) is taut, but also demands unwavering attention, barring which you might feel that the person is being murdered twice by different people. The movie does not keep you on tenterhooks throughout, which must ideally be the case for a thriller, but it does not bore you too".[4]
