The East Kilbride Athletic Club ( or EKAC for short) is an athletic club based in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located inside John Wrights Sports Center, which has its own athletics track. The club was founded in 1959 and are affiliated to Scottish Athletics Ltd. EKAC caters for road running, cross country, hill running and track and field events with the minimum age being eight years, there is no upper age limit.

Training

The club trains on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening at the East Kilbride Stadium (John Wrights Sports Center) and in the winter the young athletes train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at Kirktonholme Pavilion. There is also a senior road running section which meets at the sports centre on a Monday at 7pm.[1]

Recent Times

Currently the club is flourishing with a large young athlete section most of whom compete regularly in track, cross country, road and hill races. The club competes in the Central South Scotland League Two having been promoted last year as Champions.The club is now in division 1

Jog Scotland

East Kilbride Athletic Club a member of Jogscotland programme.,[2] which is a recreational running programme directed by Scottish Athletics Ltd.[3]

Events

They hold two events per athletic year. They organise a Fun Run in June, which is aimed at Primary 6 and 7 pupils and pupils from 1st and 2nd year at High School. This event is well supported by the local schools and attracts about 200 runners per year.

Our other event is the Hugh Wilson 10K Memorial Road Race, which is run in December. This race is for seniors only and attracts about 250 runners from all over Scotland .

The club is also committed to working in conjunction with Diet Coke for the annual half marathon and 10 km which sees 2000 people take to the streets of East Kilbride.[4] They are always looking for new members.[5]
