Durga Charan Panigrahi (Hindi: दुर्गा चरण पाणिग्रही, born: 29 March 1961) is an Indian mining scientist, author and director of Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad.[1][2] He is the winner of the National Mineral Award - 1998 by the Ministry of Mines and Minerals, Govt. of India for his contributions in the field of mining technology. His areas of research are Mine Ventilation, Mine Fire and sub-surface Environmental Engineering.[3]

Biography

Panigrahi was born on 29 march, 1961. He completed his bachelor's degree in 1984 from Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad followed by two master's degrees in Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management respectively, and doctoral work at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad completed in 1994.[4]

Panigrahi joined Tata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. in 1984 as an assistant manager. In 1987, he joined Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research as a scientist, and joined Indian School of Mines as Assistant Professor in 1992. In 1998, he was promoted to full Professorship and in September 2011 became director of the college.[5]
