Disney Channel is a 24-hour family entertainment channel available in Sub-Saharan Africa since September 25, 2006. It currently has two sister channels; Disney XD (channel 304) and Disney Junior (channel 309), though a Disney Junior block runs from 06:45 GMT/08:45 CAT, every weekday morning. It adapted the logos used by Disney Channel UK since it launched until late 2010 when it adapted the current 'smartphone logo' used by Disney Channel USA. The channel also airs in the Middle East as "Disney Channel Middle East" . The channel airs in this region without African Adverts or Disney merchandize promos but local shows like I love Violetta & Cookabout air in all regions. The channel also airs in former Yugoslavia with Serbo-Croatian subtitles.

History

The broadcast of Playhouse Disney ceased on 1 June 2011 with the launch of Disney Junior as a separate channel.[1] Disney XD was also launched in 2011. The station adopted a new logo from Disney Channel US, accompanied by the introduction of the current logo in 2011. In June 2014, Multichoice was fined R5000 for failing to provide a warning before airing an advertisement for the fantasy drama Wolfblood, which contained scenes of horror, on Disney XD on the morning of 31 December 2013.[2]

The channel adopted a new logo and underwent a brand design on 21 July 2014.[3]
