Dheeraj Deshmukh

Dheeraj V. Deshmukh is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra.

Biography

Deshmukh was born the third and youngest son of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former Union Minister of Heavy Industries. His elder brothers are Amit Deshmukh, an MLA, and Ritesh Deshmukh, an actor. The family hails from Latur on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border and belongs to the Maratha community.

Career

Following in his father's footsteps, Deshmukh joined the Congress party at a young age. He became involved with the Indian Youth Congress, because Rahul Gandhi (who held direct charge of the Youth Congress) was making all-out efforts to revive that organization and make it the engine of progress for the party. As part of these efforts, Gandhi introduced elections for office-bearers of the Youth Congress at all levels. Deshmukh was elected twice, once from Renapur, Shirur Tajband and again from Ahmedpur areas.[1] Later, he was also elected as President of the Latur Loksabha Youth Congress.

Personal life

Deshmukh is married to Deepshika (Honey) Bhagnani, who hails from a Sindhi family settled in Mumbai. She is the daughter of film producer Vashu Bhagnani and sister of Bollywood actor Jackky Bhagnani.[2] Deshmukh and Deepshikha have a son, Vansh Dheeraj Deshmukh, who was born on 25 May 2014. Incidentally, 26 May marks the birthday of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh.[3]
