Dexter High School

Dexter High School (DHS) is a public high school located in Dexter, Michigan. It serves grades 9-12. William Moran is currently the principal of DHS.

DHS is one of only two schools in the country with a dreadnaught as a mascot. The other school is Lakeland Senior High School.[2]

History

Dexter High School was originally located in the building which is now Creekside Intermediate School. When the population of students became too large for this building, the new Dexter High School was built in 2002 in its current location.

Demographics

The demographic breakdown of the 1,163 students enrolled in the 2013-2014 school year was:

8.3% of the students were eligible for free or reduced lunch.[1]

Academics

Dexter High School offers ten different AP courses (nine with two alternating each year) and 19 IB courses. Dexter High School also houses more than 30 clubs for students to participate in.[3] DHS also has musical departments including Band, Orchestra, and most recently, choir.

The Dexter High School National Ocean Science Bowl team took 2nd place nationally in 2015.[4]

Athletics

The Dexter Dreadnaughts compete in the Southeastern Conference. The school colors are maroon and gold. Dexter offers the following MHSAA sanctioned varsity sports:[5]
