Dasaria

Dasaria is a human-centric, medium-magic roleplay and story-driven Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting that became an online persistent world using the Neverwinter Nights client in 2002, and again using the Neverwinter Nights 2 client in 2006.[1]

Description

The Setting

Dasaria began as a low-magic D&D campaign setting taking place in a kingdom of the same name. It is a human centric world that leaves many concepts, such as large-scale geography and definite cosmology, only vaguely defined.

The Kingdom of Dasaria was founded by its first king, Siril. Since its birth as an organized nation, the kingdom fought a long and bloody war with the stronger and larger Empire of Varana, an antagonistic sovereignty to the far west of Dasaria. The war between these two nations was the focal point of the setting's campaign for most of its lifespan.

On the Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 Clients

Dasaria was one of the first Persistent worlds to migrate from its original PnP campaign setting to the Neverwinter Nights game client, having done so in 2002. From 2002 to 2006, the gameworld was open to players using this client, leaving the course of its campaign largely decided by its community.

In October 2006, Dasaria 2 was opened to the public as an open beta on the Neverwinter Nights 2 client, which was also released just days before. This incarnation of the gameworld advanced the setting fifty years into the future, and dictated that the war between Dasaria and Varana had been ended in a brute-force takeover by the latter nation. In this setting, the Kingdom of Dasaria is now a mere province of the dominant Empire of Varana, its citizens generally oppressed by their far more strict and bureaucratic new leaders.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Vault Hall of Fame

Dasaria 2 was among the first inductees into the Neverwinter Nights 2 Vault Hall of Fame.[2] It retained the highest position on the Vault's list of Top Gameworlds for months, and as of August 2009 it holds the 16th position on the same list, with a score of 9.62/10.00.
