Direito de Amar is a Brazilian telenovela produced and broadcast by Rede Globo in 1987.[1]

Synopsis

In Rio de Janeiro, the early 20th century, the industrial Augusto Medeiros is forced to marry his daughter Rosalia with the fearsome banker Francis of Montserrat, on account of a debt. But Rosália is in love with Adriano, just graduated doctor who met at a masked ball in the New Year's Eve 1900, unaware that he was the son of M. de Montserrat.

Meanwhile, Montserrat keeps in his care a woman, Joan, said to be crazy, trapped in a room of his mansion - a woman who knows too much about his dark past. At the end it turns out that Joan was actually the wife of Montserrat, who had pretended to widower. But the banker has yet to face his old rival, Dr. Jorge Ramos, who will play Jane in the past. In addition, the doctor has great influence on Adriano, including their professional choice.
