Damapati

Damapati (Sanskrit dama =property, house + pati lord) (Latin domus potis) in India was a term for the master or sovereign of the home or piece of land (domain, street) (dama) comparable to the title of Freiherr or baron. The title is mostly not hereditary like the title of Don, but given as an honorary tile. The equivalent of the title of Ritter or caballero in ancient India was asvapati (asva=horse + pati=lord). The Hindi equivalent of damapati is dampati and in the Persian Yasna it is given Deng-paiti [1] meaning wise prince.
