Cosima von Bonin (born 1962) is a German contemporary artist.[1] von Bonin's practice features the use of sculptures, textiles, sound, film and performances.[2] von Bonin currently lives and works in Cologne, Germany.[3]
Early life
Cosima von Bonin was born in Mombasa, Kenya in 1964[4] and raised in Austria.[5] von Bonin graduated from the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (University of Fine Arts in Hamburg), and while still a student, presented her first work with Josef Strau in 1990. Although she has not revealed details about her upbringing, her experiences in Africa may have been the inspiration for one of her later exhibitions, Ein Löwe im Bonsaiwald (Lion in a Bonsai Forest), in Cologne (1997).
Career
One focus of von Bonin's artistic works is the relationship between works of art and the world of fashion, music and architecture. Her creations frequently include collaboration with other artists for collective activities, including parties, DJ sets, music performances and audio and video exhibitions, effectively making them of an ephemeral nature.[1]
