Colin Irwin John Hamilton Drummond OBE (born 22 February 1951) is a British businessman. He is the Chief Executive of Viridor and joint CEO of Pennon Group plc, a British water utility and waste management company.

Early life

Drummond was born and brought up in Northern Ireland, where his father worked in the shipyard before becoming a priest. He won a scholarship to read Classics at the University of Oxford and after working for a short time at the Bank of England, completed an MBA at the Harvard Business School.[1]

Career

Drummond has been a Director of Pennon Group plc since 1 April 1992. He has previously served as Divisional Chief Executive of Coats Viyella plc and served as Corporate Development Director of Renold plc, a strategy consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. He has also served as Master of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators.

Drummond serves as the Chairman of the Government’s Environmental Sector Advisory Group and is the Chairman of the Environmental Knowledge Transfer Network, and Senior Visiting Research Fellow in Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford.[2]

In 2010, he appeared on the Channel 4 television series Undercover Boss.

On 5 August 2013 Viridor announced the appointment of Ian McAulay as Chief Executive of Viridor and Executive Director of Pennon Group taking effect from 9 September 2013, with Colin Drummond retiring as Chief Executive and taking up the position of Non-executive Chairman of Viridor.

Personal life

He met his wife Georgina whilst a student at Oxford.
