Christopher Dominic "Chris" Urbanowicz (born 22 June 1981) is a British producer and musician, best known as the former lead guitarist and synth player of the indie rock band Editors.
He is influenced by such bands as The Walkmen,[1] The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem,[2] Kraftwerk[3] and Elbow.[4]
History
Urbanowicz was born in Aslockton, Nottinghamshire. He studied music technology at Staffordshire University for three years with the other members of Editors. He then worked in a shoe shop with Editors drummer Ed Lay in Birmingham for two years before the band signed to Kitchenware Records.
Urbanowicz features prominently in an amateur music video,[5] produced as coursework during his studies at Staffordshire University.
He provided additional production on Airship's debut record Stuck In This Ocean, which was released on 5 September 2011.[6][7]
On 16 April 2012, Editors announced on their Facebook page that "In a decision entirely based upon future musical direction, and with huge sadness, Editors and Chris Urbanowicz have parted ways."[8]
In September 2013, Alex Winston released her single "101 Vultures", which was produced by Urbanowicz.[9]
In October 2013, Urbanowicz under the name Druids remixed Overexposed for Matt & Kim on their Lightening Remixes album.[10]
In March 2014, Urbanowicz produced the self-titled debut EP for PIAS band The Spectors as well as their debut album "Light Stays Close".[11]
Personal life
Urbanowicz lives in New York City.[12][13][14] He has synesthesia.[15]
His grandparents were Polish, but both mother and father were born in England.
He supports Nottingham Forest Football Club.[16]
His left arm is tattooed with a sleeve design of coloured roses, a swallow, a modified version of the c1981-1982 Andy Warhol piece "Gun" featuring three coloured revolvers, a modified version of the Eelus art piece "Alice" with a raven and a traditional gypsy piece.
It was announced on the Editors website that Chris does not have any social media pages such as Twitter or Facebook.[17] This information has since proved outdated since Chris can be reached on Twitter and Instagram.[18][19]
