Christopher Murrah

Christopher "Chris" Murrah (born in LaBelle, Florida on 18 March 1981) is an American theatre director and actor and teaching artist. He is the managing director of The Red Door Theatre Co. He has also appeared as an actor in films, most notably a lead role in What Happens Next.

Career

Murrah grew up in an agricultural family that grows tomatoes. He then moved to New York to attend New York University (NYU's) Tisch School of the Arts and subsequently graduated from Florida State University.

In 2006, he appeared in the male lead role of Bobby Strong, the head of the resistance in Urinetown: The Musical.[1] He co-directed The Odyssey and also appeared in productions Sweeney Todd, Once on This Island and Seussical The Musical.

His debut role in films was in gay-themed comedy What Happens Next directed by Jay Arnold that was filmed in Philadelphia with the original title "You Can't Have It All" and presented at Philadelphia QFest. In the film, he is credited as Chris Murrah.

In 2012, he directed the NYU Steinhardt Players' Club musical theatre production of Children of Eden, adapted from a book by John Caird. It played at the NYU Black Box Theatre.

Chris Murrah is openly gay. He is an associate with One Healing Arts Company, a theatre company dedicated to creating works of theatre that heal and inspire.[2]
