Changsha WES Academy (Chinese: 长沙玮希国际学校) is an international kindergarten, elementary and middle school located in Changsha, Hunan Province, People's Republic of China.

Changsha WES Academy (CWA) is the first and only international school in Hunan Province to be approved by the Ministry of Education as an international school that uses English as the language of instruction.

CWA was established in 2009 by the Changsha Economic and Technical Development Zone Administrative Committee (CETZAC) in co-operation with Worldwide Education Services Group Pte. Ltd. (WES Group) to provide an international education for the children of expatriate and SAR families living and working in the area.

CWA started classes on 1 September 2010 with just four children aged 7 to 9. On 14 February 2011 the Early Years Programme started with ten children aged 3 to 5. There are currently 56 students, representing 17 nationalities, enrolled in classes from Nursery to Grade 9. As the number of foreign families relocating to the Changsha area is increasing, we anticipate that the school will grow up to Grade 12.

Curriculum

The school is an IB World School authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB) to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP). For more information about the IB and its programmes, please visit <www.ibo.org>. CWA started a Grade 9 class in August 2015 that is preparing for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations to be taken in June 2016. CWA is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is currently going through the CIS accreditation process. For more information about CIS, please visit <www.cois.org>.

Facilities

On 14 February 2011, the school moved to its brand new, purpose-built campus. In addition to spacious classrooms, there are also specialty facilities including art rooms, a broadcasting studio, children’s play areas, computer labs, dining room, library/media centres, music rooms, sports field, sports hall, science labs, theatre, and a teaching kitchen. There is Wi-fi access throughout the school, interactive whiteboards in most classrooms, and students use a combination of i-pads and MacBooks as learning tools to integrate technology into the curriculum.
