The Centre for Finance and Development is an interdisciplinary research centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies which is housed at the Maison de la paix in Geneva. The Centre is staffed by several prominent economists such as: director Jean-Louis Arcand, deputy-director Ugo Panizza, Cédric Tille, and Charles Wyplosz.

Founding

The Centre for Finance and Development (CFD) was founded with a grant of the Pictet Foundation for Development.^[1][2] It was formally inaugurated by Harvard professor Ricardo Hausmann in September 2012.

Expertise

The Centre specifically focuses on research in the following fields:

• international finance, and development finance in particular, including the role played by the international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank;
• financial development, including banking and financial sector development in emerging and developing countries, both from contemporary and historical perspectives;
• microeconomics of finance and development.

Accomplishments

The research for the influential Too Much Finance paper, was done at the Centre for Finance and Development.
