Catfish the Bottleman is a busker and musician from Sydney, Australia.[1] He is known for playing music with drums and tuned beer bottles and is also a singer and songwriter.[2] The nickname "Catfish" was given to him in 2000 when he first started playing because of an unusually styled spiky beard reminiscent of the whiskers of a catfish.[3]

Career

Catfish the Bottleman's real name is Michael Bevan.[4] He has been cited by Van McCann of Catfish and the Bottlemen as being the inspiration behind his band's name.[5] Catfish met the band that named themselves after him at the studios of Triple J radio in Sydney in January 2015.[6]

According to Catfish the Bottleman's website, he first started busking while travelling in Ireland, the UK and the Canary Islands by playing a vacuum cleaner.[2]

He was a finalist on Australia's Got Talent in 2008.[7] He has made several other television appearances including on Sunrise, The Footy Show and Rude Tube.[2]
