Bulgaria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Bulgarian entry was selected through a national final, organised by the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT). Sofi Marinova represented Bulgaria with the song "Love Unlimited", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, achieving 11th place with 45 points.[1][2]

National selection

On 25 August 2011, BNT started the call for songs for their national selection which will be once again supervised by a special panel consisting of music and media professionals.[3]

The deadline to submit songs for the Bulgarian national selection is 11 November 2011.[4][5]

From all the entries submitted to BNT as audio files, the academy will select 60. These 60 songs will then be presented live before the experts at BNT's Studio 1. Only 22 of them will qualify to the semi-final on 14 January 2012. The top favourite of the academy and the SMS voting will automatically advance to the final. The other ten finalists will be chosen by the academy and the SMS voting with a 50% stake each.[6] The final will take place on 29 February 2012 at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. The winner will be chosen by a SMS voting and the academy.[7]

On 15 November 2011, BNT announced the 33 songs which advanced to the Academy selection on 23 November 2011.[8]

At Eurovision

Bulgaria competed in the first half of the second semi-final (8th on stage), on 24 May 2012, following Ukraine and preceding the Slovenia. Bulgaria received 45 points and placed 11th, thus failing to qualify for the final on 26 May.[1] Bulgaria tied for 10th place with Norway, however, under tiebreak rules, the number of countries that voted for Norway (11) was higher than the number for Bulgaria (10). This resulted in Norway qualifying to the final over Bulgaria.
