Brief history

The Company of Biologists looked to address some big issues in publishing through the launch of its new journal Biology Open.[1] The Company saw that some authors had a problem finding homes for papers that were sound, but lacked perceived impact. BiO was also launched with the aims of rapid publication for scientifically sound observations and to reduce reviewer fatigue in the community.

BiO was launched in July 2012,[2] including an editorial about the launch of the journal.[3] The first issue went live in January 2012. The Editor in Chief is Jordan Raff.
