Bilal Powell (born October 27, 1988) is an American football running back for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at Louisville.

College career

As a senior at Louisville, Powell was named to the All-Big East Conference first team[1] after rushing for 1,330 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games for the Cardinals. On October 15, Powell ran for a season high of 209 yards and 2 touchdowns against Cincinnati.[2] Prior to the 2011 NFL Draft, Powell was invited to the 2011 Senior Bowl.[3]

Powell was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round with the 126th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.[6]

2011-2012 season

On July 29, 2011, Powell signed a 4-year rookie contract worth $3,226,500 with $400,500 guaranteed.[7][8]

Powell made his NFL debut on November 17, 2011, against the Denver Broncos.[9] Powell would finish the 2011 season by playing in only 2 games. In those 2 games, Powell ran for 21 yards on 13 attempts and 1 reception for 7 yards.

On November 18, 2012, Powell ran for 42 yards on 11 carries and a season-high 2 touchdowns against the St. Louis Rams, his first multiple-touchdown game of his career.[10] Powell also scored his first career touchdown as well. On November 22, 2012, Powell ran for 40 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown against the New England Patriots.[11] On December 2, 2012, Powell ran for 58 yards on 12 carries against the Arizona Cardinals.[12] On December 9, 2012, Powell ran for a season-high 78 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars.[13] Powell scored his 4th touchdown of the season, and also had a season-high in carries. Powell finished his sophomore season running for 437 yards on 110 carries and 4 touchdowns and catching 17 passes for 140 yards.

2013-2014 season

On September 22, 2013, Powell ran for 149 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.[14] Powell ran for a 21-yard touchdown.[15] On September 29, 2013, Powell ran for 66 yards on 14 carries against the Tennessee Titans.[16] Powell recorded a 36-yard reception.[17] On December 22, 2013, Powell recorded a 39-yard run against the Cleveland Browns.[18] On December 29, 2013, Powell ran for 76 yards on 21 carries against the Miami Dolphins.[19] Powell also threw a pass to tight end Jeff Cumberland for 30 yards.[20] Powell finished the 2013 season with 697 rushing yards on 176 carries and a touchdown and 272 receiving yards on 36 passes.

On October 26, 2014, Powell ran for his only touchdown of the season against the Buffalo Bills.[21] Powell finished his 2014 campaign with 141 rushing yards on 33 carries and 92 receiving yards on 11 catches.

2015 season

On March 14, 2015, Powell signed a 1-year, $2 million contract with the New York Jets.[8][22]

On September 13, 2015, Powell ran for 62 yards on 12 carries against the Cleveland Browns.[23] On September 27, 2015, Powell caught 7 passes for 44 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.[24] On November 22, 2016, Powell caught 5 passes for 67 yards against the Houston Texans.[25] On December 6, 2015, Powell caught 8 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants.[26] Powell recorded a 25-yard touchdown.[27] On December 13, 2015, Powell caught 5 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans.[28] On December 19, 2015, Powell caught 7 passes for 54 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.[29] Powell also recorded his first rushing touchdown of the season. On December 27, 2015, Powell ran for 56 yards on 7 carries in the against the New England Patriots.[30]

Powell finished the 2015 season with 313 rushing yards on 70 carries and a touchdown and 388 receiving yards on 47 catches and two touchdowns.

2016 season

On March 10, 2016, Powell signed a 3-year, $11,250,000 contract with the New York Jets.[8][31]

On September 11, 2016, Powell ran for 41 yards on 4 carries in the season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.[32] On September 25, 2016, Powell caught 6 passes for 41 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.[33] Powell recorded a fumble, which he lost.[34] On October 2, 2016, Powell caught 6 passes for 54 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.[35] On October 30, 2016, Powell ran for 76 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns.[36] Powell recorded a 35-yard touchdown.[37] The last time the Jets had a longer touchdown run was by Chris Ivory in 2014 against the Oakland Raiders, a 71-yarder.[36] On November 13, 2016, Powell caught 7 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams.[38] Powell scored on a lateral trick play.[39]
