Barton House Railway
The Barton House Railway (BHR) is a miniature railway in Wroxham, Norfolk; it is open on the third Sunday of each month from April until October.
History
The initial 3½" gauge track was laid in 1960; the railway opened to the public in 1963, and began to raise money for local charities.[1]
In 1967 the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway Honing East Signalbox was rebuilt at Barton House Railway having been carefully dismantled from its original home at Honing railway station where it had stood since 1901.
A new 7¼" gauge Riverside Railway was added in 1979.
In 2013, Barton House Railway held there 50th Special anniversary, with celebrations happening all over the year from April to October.
In Mid-August 2016, the Barton House Railway staged the opening of a new Junior Friends event and was successful.

2017 will be the railway's 54th anniversary year with events held throughout the year including:

Private events
The railway is available for hire by private parties such as children's birthdays, offering the party its own private train with a buffet lunch. The railway also commemorates other events; for example a minute's silence in 2012 marking 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic
The new line
In mid-2012, Barton House Railway started to create a new line from the museum to the top lawn by the booking office; this line is still under construction.
Directions to Barton House Railway
By Road
- Travelling from the Coastal town of Great Yarmouth, A47 via Acle heading towards the City of Norwich, Junction turn off heading towards Salhouse and Wroxham. Keep following road all the way to Wroxham. Once your in Wroxham find the Avenues that will lead you to Hartwell Road.
- Travelling from North Walsham and the North of Norfolk, Follow the signs to Great Yarmouth along the A149, you will come to a Junction, turn right and follow the signs to Wroxham, follow the road on the A1151 to Wroxham, once your in Wroxham find the Avenues that will lead you to Hartwell Road.
- Travelling from Kings Lynn, the West and Northern England, head towards Norwich via Swaffham and Dereham along the A47, get to junction for the A1074, go on to the Norwich Ring Road and follow signs for Cromer and for Wroxham, follow the road on the A1151 to Wroxham, once your in Wroxham find the Avenues that will lead you to Hartwell Road.
- Travelling from London and the South of England, A11 travelling Northbound to Norwich via Newmarket and Thetford. Once you have got to Norwich follow the Ring Road around the City centre and follow signs for Cromer and for Wroxham, follow the road on the A1151 to Wroxham, once your in Wroxham find the Avenues that will lead you to Hartwell Road.
By Rail
- Train service from Norwich to Sheringham on the Abellio Greater Anglia. Disembark at Wroxham and Hoveton station, then take a short walk into the Village centre, there will be a boat operated by BHR on running days at Granary Quay.
