Barbara Staropoli

Barbara Staropoli, S.S.J., is a Sister of Saint Joseph of Rochester, New York, an author and a well-respected singer and teacher of voice.

Life

After earning undergraduate degrees at Nazareth College, she continued her studies at the Eastman School of Music, eventually receiving a Doctorate of Music Arts (D.M.A.) in Voice after studying with world-renowned soprano Jan DeGaetani.

Publications

In late 2000, Staropoli published a collection of Canzonettas by Italian composer Julia Caccini, published by Hildegard Press in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, a publisher specializing in the study of female composers and musicians.

Current Happenings

Staropoli is currently the Vice President of her congregation, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Nazareth College. She plays host to the annual Barbara Staropoli Singing Composition held in Rochester and is a member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
