Anthony Garofoli

Anthony Garofoli (19362003) worked for the City of Cleveland, accomplished attorney, an American politician of the Democratic Party in Cleveland, Ohio. Garofoli was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but came to Cleveland to study at John Carroll University. He served on Cleveland City Council representing the Little Italy neighborhood of Cleveland, and was an elected member of council then later served as president.

Anthony Garofoli was active in shaping and developing the foundation of Cleveland, Ohio. Garofoli was chairman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, Chairman of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Cleveland State University as well as confidant and advisor to many mayors throughout his life. As the County's Democratic Party leader he often had to throw his name in races when a qualified candidate wasn't present. This was the basis of his unsuccessful attempts for Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio and County Commissioner.
