Ani Batikian (Armenian: Անի Բատիկյան born 22 November 1982) is an Armenian violinist currently living in Scotland.
Education
Batikian started her studies at the Yerevan State Conservatoire in 1998 when she was only 15 years old, and was awarded an undergraduate diploma in 2002, followed by a postgraduate diploma with honours in 2003.[1]
She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2003, funded by the Raffi Manoukian full scholarship, where she studied under Professor Hu Kun. She gained a DipRAM diploma for outstanding performance, and a PGDip postgraduate diploma with distinction.[2]
Then in 2006 an International Full Scholarship enabled her to continue her studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama under Professor Peter Lissauer.[2] Soon after arriving at RSAMD she formed the Cosmopolitan String Quartet, which she leads.[3] She is currently on the RSAMD staff as a junior lecturer.[4]
Career
Batikian has given many solo recitals in UK and Armenia, and has performed as a soloist with the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, the Armenian Baroque Orchestra, the Katrineholm Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, the Hebrides Ensemble in Glasgow and the Yerevan Youth Orchestra.[1]
She has performed at a number of festivals including the Music Alp Festival in France, the Levon Chilingirian Festival in Armenia, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany, and the Cadenza International Summer Music School in England.[2]
The Dewar Arts Award she won in 2007 enabled her to buy a Ciciliati violin, which she has since played at numerous concerts.[3]
In 2008 she was selected by John Wallace, principal of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, and appointed as one of three young musicians sponsored for a year as ‘emergent leaders’. As part of this, she, Bede Williams and Fraser Gordon acted as the artistic directors of the RSAMD's Summerfest which ran from 26 June – 3 July 2009.[5][6]
