André Johannpeter (born 17 March 1963 in Porto Alegre) is a former Brazilian equestrian and businessman.

Johannpeter has worked for Gerdau since 1980. He has been the President of the Company, in the position of Chief Executive Officer and president of the Gerdau Executive Committee since January, 2007. At the beginning of 2008 he became a member of the Board of Directors, and is also a member of the Strategy Committee of the Board of Directors. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors, President Officer and president of the Executive Committee of the parent company Metalurgica Gerdau S.A. and President Officer of the subsidiary Seiva S.A Florestas e Industrias.

As an equestrian he won a bronze medal in show jumping at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney he again won a bronze medal with the Brazilian team, anhd placed fourth in the individual contest.[1]

Early life and career

Andre Bier Gerdau Johannpeter was born in Porto Alegre, March 17, 1963. He is the son of businessman Jorge Gerdau Johannpeter, chairman of the Board of Directors of Gerdau, and Erica Bier.


He got a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul and completed his academic training with courses in General Business Administration from University of Toronto , Canada, Marketing from Ashridge Business School, England and the Advanced Management Program from Wharton School, in University of Pennsylvania, United States. He began his career at sixteen, as assistant plant operator in the Gerdau Group.[2]

Personal life

Like his father (Jorge Gerdau Johannpeter) and his brothers, André practiced horse riding, the family rear horses of Holsteiner horse breed and was one of the horses to win, Brazil the two bronze medals in Atlanta Olympics, in 1996, and in those of Sydney, in 2000 without being professional. Also won medals at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg. He is married to psychiatrist Maria Teresa Campos
