Ali Al Numairy (1956 - March 7, 2013)[1] was the Vice President of the Arab Medical Union, World Vice president of International College of Surgeons President ICS UAE Section President of Plastic Surgery Society – Emirates Medical Association. Director General and Head of Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery Dept. Gulf Specialty Hospital – Dubai

Dr. Ali Al-Numairy was born on 1956. The first UAE national plastic surgeon specialized in the field . He has an impressive professional background and he is a dedicated plastic and cosmetic surgeon.[2]

Establishing Himself

His fascination for medicine started with the extraction of a tooth. His inclination towards science and academic excellence was evident from his school days. At the age of 14 years in school, it was necessary to take penicillin injections on a daily basis, for a few days after the extraction. He was interested in the idea of doing it himself and all the instruments fascinated him. During those periods there were no disposable syringes and so everything had to be sterilized carefully. The future doctor carried out it at home. Then he arranged a kit and started dissecting animals rabbits and hens. After few years in 1968 while his father traveled to Beirut, the young boy asked him to get a medical book titled "Principle and Practice of Medicine" by Davidson, Samsonwrights "Applied Physiology" and Cunningham’s "Applied Anatomy". Still he having those books

Career

After graduating from the University of Cairo in 1979, he started work at the Department of Health & Medical Services, Government of Dubai. He has had an active career since 1980. In 1980, he had the opportunity to meet a famed plastic surgeon from India, Dr. Maneck Shah and that was the turning point of this young doctor’s career. Then Dr. Ali Al-Numairy met Dr. Bernard Dessapt, who introduced him to the aesthetic aspect of plastic surgery. He worked in different hospitals,in Lyon, France studying reconstruction, microsurgery, transplantation, maxillo-facial and aesthetic surgery. After four years he returned to the Department of Health & Medical Services, Dubai as a Registrar in 1990 and he was promoted to Consultant Plastic Surgeon and the head of Plastic Surgery & Burn unit for the Department of Health & Medical Services. He is the founder and president of the Plastic Surgery Society of the Emirates Medical Association. He is also member as well as national delegate of several international scientific societies and institutions like IPRAS, ISAPS, ISBI, ASPS, etc. He is the founding member and member of the council and the board of directors of the Pan Arab Association of Burn and Plastic Surgeons; the Past president of the Pan Arab Association of Burn and Plastic Surgeons, member of International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons; Member of the North American Academy of Cosmetic and Restorative Surgery; Diplomate of Lipoplasty University, Founding member and First President of the G.C.C. Association of Plastic Surgeons, Chairman of the G.C.C. Standing Committee for the Ethics in Plastic Surgery in the G.C.C Association of Plastic Surgeons

Family

Wife Dr. Kareema, who herself is a hematologist and head of pathology department at Latifa Hospital,Dubai Dr. Ahmed, elder son also choose the same path of his parents and graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Prof. Hussain (B. Sc., M. Sc.), Dr. Mohammed, Al Zahra and Fatima.

Death

On March 7, 2013, at almost 9:35 pm while riding home on his motorcycle, Dr.Numairy was struck and killed by a driver who was suspected of running a red light.[1] The ruler of Dubai paid condolences to his family.[1]
