The Alexander American University (AAU) is a private medical school with its main campus in Georgetown, Guyana. Graduates obtain a Medical Doctorate upon completion of the five year medical program.

History

AAU was established in 2015 by International Medical Educators Directory, Inc. (IMED) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It is not yet recognized by MCI Medical Council of Indiahttp://www.mciindia.org/MediaRoom/ListofChinaColleges.aspx ,IMED International Medical Education Directory, ECFMG Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, WHO World Health Organization. Although, their WHO registration is due in December this year. The students enrolled in the university are eligible to give MCI screening test as per section 13 4(A) and 4(B) of the MCI regulations act, 1956.

Accreditation

AAU is chartered in and is recognized by the government of Guyana. AAU is registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana.[1] The university is listed in the AVICENNA directory of medicine[2] and the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and World Health Organization.[3]

Medical Program

AAU has a five-year Medical Doctorate (MD) Program. It consists of 5 semesters of basic sciences and 6 semesters of clinical sciences. The basic sciences program is taught at the Georgetown, Guyana campus and the clinical sciences program is completed in Guyana, the USA, or the UK.[4]

After completing the basic sciences program, students take the USMLE Step 1 examination. Upon completion of the program, students take the USMLE step 2 examination and/or the PLAB.[5]

AAU is one of the best universities of its kind giving the vast array of diversity in spheres of international relations and a multitude of student culture. The core essence of AAU lies in its excellent academic program and safe environment which always welcomes the aspiring students to fulfill their dreams.

AAU School of Medicine accepts students into our top MD Program three times a year - January, May and September. AAU do not require the MCAT.

AAU accepts the student’s applications from different diversities that are enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to health care delivery and also limits enrollment to students meeting specific requirements in order to maintain high academic standards and ensure that students receive the best education possible.

Student’s enrollment is based on academic skills, assessments, interviews, previous achievements and other criteria.
