Aleksey Mikhailovich Durnovo

Aleksey Mikhailovich Durnovo (Russian: Алексей Михайлович Дурново) (b.1792; d. after 1841), the son of a landowner of Tula Oblast, village Spasskoe Durnovo. Russian squire/landlord in Chernsky District of Tula Oblast of Russia. Brought up in the boarding school at Moscow University at the same time with Alexander Griboyedov (enrolled as a student in December 22, 1803). He served in the engineering corps, in the 2nd Pioneer Regiment, retired in 1811 with the rank of lieutenant. Member of militia during the war. He was well known as an amateur musician. In 1827 he married Maria Sergeyevna Durnovo (Griboyedova) the sister of Alexander Griboyedov. Later Aleksey Durnovo became an honorary trustee of the Tula Oblast Gymnasium.[1]

Known Connections

Aleksey's wife, Maria Durnovo, was a sister of Russian classical writer Alexander Griboyedov. Aleksey Durnovo had good friendship with Alexander Griboedov as witnessed by many correspondences left behind families. One of the excerpts of a postscript to the letter from Durnovo's wife to her brother A. Griboyedov from 25/05/1828 reads: "My dear friend and brother, always delighted to receive your letters, the latter one was the most delightful... For God's sake, come quickly, Masha and I are counting hours and minutes". Addressed: Moscow, his Excellency, sir, Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, Novinsky Boulevard in the house of Mrs. Griboedova #61"''[2][3]
