The 19944 / 43 Ahmedabad Udaipur Meter Gauge Express is a Meter Gauge Express train belonging to Indian Railways - Western Railway zone that runs between Ahmedabad Junction & Udaipur City in India.

It operates as train number 19944 from Ahmedabad Junction to Udaipur City and as train number 19943 in the reverse direction serving the states of Gujarat & Rajasthan.

Coaches

The 19944 / 43 Ahmedabad Udaipur Meter Gauge Express has 5 Sleeper Class, 5 General Unreserved & 2 Sitting cum Luggage Rack Coaches . It does not carry a Pantry car coach.

As is customary with most train services in India, Coach Composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand. The train had earlier on AC coach but the same is removed. Number of sleeper coaches is also reduced. This is most neglected route of Indian Railway. As compared to road traffic, where every six minute there is a bus for Udaipur, which can be seen at Chiloda cross road. The India Railway has put up a very poor show and they are unable to compete with road transport. The gauge conversion to BG is a far cry.

Service

The 19944 Ahmedabad Udaipur Meter Gauge Express covers the distance of 298 km (185 mi) in 10 hours 20 mins (28.84 km/hr) & in 10 hours 40 mins as 19943 Udaipur Ahmedabad Meter Gauge Express (27.94 km/hr).

As the average speed of the train is below 55 km/h (34 mph), as per Indian Railway rules, its fare does not include a Superfast surcharge. This train now runs at an average speed of 29 km per hour and rail fare charged is that of Mail/Express. It is irony that as per average speed the fare charges should have been that of fast passenger. The average speed of the train was reduced a couple of years ago following 2 derailments of its power near Udaipur. The rails of the track have not been changed for years and this section remaines to be neglected.
