Addis Zemen ("New Era" in English)[1] is an Ethiopian Amharic newspaper, published by the federal government.[2]
History and profile
The paper was launched as a four-page weekly on 7 June 1941.[1] Therefore, the weekly was founded by Emperor Haile Selassie following the liberation of the country.[3] The name of the paper refers to the liberation of Ethiopia from Italian colonial rule.[3] Its first editor-in-chief was Amde Mikael Desalegn.[1] On 5 May 1946 the paper became a broadsheet publication[1] and later, a daily newspaper.[3]
It is based in Addis Ababa and is currently published by the Ethiopian Press Agency.[2] On Sundays, the paper provides its readers with extensive news about children in the country in terms of cultural activities.[4]
