3 Vulpeculae (abbreviated 3 Vul) is a star in the constellation Vulpecula. 3 Vulpeculae is its Flamsteed designation. It has been nicknamed "the Observer's Nightmare" (or its Latin free translation, "Spectatori Error Inextricabilis") by some astronomers[1][2] either because it is difficult to find in the sky (due to the fact it is a dim star in an equally dim constellation)[1] or to study (as its orbital period is one year, but its pulsation is 1 day).[2]

It has been identified as a slowly pulsating B-type star,[2] a type of variable star of which only about 40 are visible to the naked eye.
